The chair was designed for a classic Kaiseki restaurant/bar. The establishment, which serves traditional food, opened in the centre of Kyoto in August 1997.

The chair has been made of elm. The curved rear leg and back have been made of a piece of pre-compressed elm. The narrow rear leg and back allow easy access to the table.
